DEATHRUN TV gets a strong recommend for anyone who likes twin-stick shooters or arcade-style action games in general. The developers describe the content like this: The game contains violence and gore but it is wholly within an animated and highly stylised visual art style. The game is also fair for the most part – if you died, it was probably your own fault for taking an undue risk. It doesn’t all gel together perfectly – the visuals can get VERY busy and it will get confusing at times – but by and large the design just works. Aesthetically, it’s also very nice, as the enemies and arenas are all very distinctive. Mechanically, shooting your way through hordes of freakish enemies is every bit as satisfying as you might hope. The more people rescued at once, the greater the benefit – but keeping that long line of prisoners behind you means you risk getting some of them killed. The player is tasked with rescuing prisoners who have been dumped into the arena, being rewarded with “likes” (used to unlock new weapons, among other things) and upgrades for doing so. There are, of course, some additional quirks here. As with any twin-stick, the central mechanics are simple: Collect weapons, shoot everything that moves, advance to the next stage and do it again. Boil it down to the basics, and this is a twin-stick arena shooter which turns into a bullet hell game for the bosses. The music is rad, the effects are gripping, and the game that follows more than lives up to the presentation.
